Measuring only 1.6 x 2.0 mm² in a 20-pin wafer level chip scale package (WLCSP), the Kinetis KL03 is the world’s smallest ARM MCU and an ideal solution for low power, space-constrained applications where cost or environmental factors prevent use of larger QFN/LQFP/BGA packages. Part of Freescale’s growing portfolio of Kinetis ‘Minis’ (miniature packaged MCUs), the KL03 expands the L series to more than 200 individual devices and opens up new design options in IoT enabled consumer products, remote sensing nodes, wearable devices and ingestible medical sensors.

 

Built on a 48MHz ARM Cortex-M0+ core, the KL03 offers multiple low power operating modes, energy-saving peripherals (UART/timers) and aggressive  run/wait/stop currents starting from 77nA in Very Low-Leakage Stop 0 mode. A 16-byte system register file also retains critical application data in the lowest low-leakage modes. Additional features include 8-32KB flash, 2K SRAM, 12-bit ADC with precision Vref and a high speed comparator. The KL03 is the first Kinetis family to include a ROM Bootloader which enables in-system flash programming via I2C, LPUART or SPI providing software flexibility during development, manufacture or in-field deployment. KL03 MCUs are also available in 16QFN (3 x 3 mm) and 24 QFN (4 x 4 mm) packages.

 

The KL03 is supported by the low cost FRDM-KL03Z development board, complimentary Kinetis Design Studio IDE (no code size limit), Software Development Kit (SDK) and broad ARM ecosystem support.
